Soda Blasting History
During
the Statue of Liberty cleaning and restoration project, New York State
engineers needed to find a method to clean the statue without damaging the
monument or the environment. The delicate copper plates that make up the
exterior of the statue would be damaged using the conventional methods in use at
the time. Also, those methods would
create harmful waste in the surrounding waterways. Soda blasting was invented to
accomplish the task of cleaning the statue, while keep surrounding environment
safe.
